Rock River Arms showed a number of new products at the SHOT Show today...

they have officially unveiled a line of AR Pistols
.223 caliber, 9mm and 40S&W also available
(We should have pricing posted within 10 days)
they announced a .308 Caliber LAR-10 rifle that is expected to be available this summer (pricing not yet finalized).
.458 SOCOM now a reality
Numerous new options and accessories

We'll be updating the website and info over the next couple weeks.

The bad news is that demand still outstrips supply... especially when it comes to barrels. This means that deliveries are still running 6 to 8 weeks on average.

Are these pistol's registered as PISTOLS? or LONG GUN? I know they are restricted, just wondering about the mag law? 10 rd for pistols etc. That would make for an interesting discussion on AR mags.

Easy...

The AR-pistols would indeed be registered as pistols (because they couldn't be exported from the US otherwise)
AR Pistols unfortunately will still be restricted to 5rnds because AR magazines are designed for Rifles.

Correct me if I am wrong :)

G37, you are right, but there is some mud in the water.

Up until the last few weeks, the interpretation of the mag law seemed to be fixed on a combination of design and manufacture. The act reads as "a magazine designed and manufactured for........"

Under that interpretation, an AR-15 mag is always a centerfire semi auto mag and limited to 5 rounds.

The interpretation seemed to be solidified when the Beretta CX-4 came on the market, and the CFC ruled that as the magazines were designed for a handgun, they were legal at 10 rounds.

However, a recent memo to firearms businesses has advised owners of CX-4 marked mags that they are prohibited if over 5 rounds. The difference would seem to be in the marking.

Previously it was interpreted that design was key, and manufactured for was subordinate to design. Now it would seem that the CFC are arguing that marking a mag by the manufacturer to designate the gun it goes in takes precedence. Under that logic, a marked CX-4 mag is limited to 5, while an unmarked mag may be assumed to be a beretta 92 mag and legal at 10 rounds.

The obvious result of this current interpretation is that should Remingtom choose to mark 20 and 30 round mags for thier 7615 pump action rifle, they will be legal in Canada.

I expect a clarification on this issue shortly, and I wouldn't be in a hurry to buy Remington marked mags, or destroy CX-4 marked mags.

Have we gotten an update on this?

Can we legally shoot 10rd mags with this gun?

Have we gotten an update on this?

Can we legally shoot 10rd mags with this gun?

The correct information has been available for sometime now... The issue has nothing to do with the gun you put the magazine into... it has everything to do with the magazine itself.

If the magazine was designed/manufactured as a "Pistol Magazine" then it can hold up to 10 rounds and it can legally be used IN ANY FIREARM - THAT MEANS PISTOLS AND RIFLES. If the magazine was designed/manufactured to be used in a rifle then it is legally limited to a capacity of 5 rounds, regardless of what type of firearm you put it into.

This does NOT mean you can take your 5 round rifle magazines and re-pin them to 10 rounds. Nor can you take a rifle magazine stamp the words "Pistol Mag" on it and now change it to 10 rounds... that magazine is still considered a rifle magazine and would be classified as a "Prohibited Device". There is a rather involved process for establishing that the magazine was indeed designed/manufactured for a pistol.

Questar has been offering 9mm 10 round magazines that fit the RRA LAR-15 Pistols for quite some time now... these magazines also fit the Colt, Bushmaster and several other 9mm AR style rifles and pistols. These magazines (specifically) have been classified by the RCMP as "Pistol Magazines" and have a legal capacity of 10 rounds.

We have also (finally) received RCMP classification approval on a .223/5.56 caliber "LAR-15 10 round pistol magazine" that is currently in production and should be available for sale shortly. These "pistol" .223/5.56 magazines will fit the RRA LAR-15 Pistols but they will also fit all standard AR Rifles and are legal for use, with a 10 round capacity, in any firearm that they fit.

10 rounds for my AR!!! I shall now do the happy dance! :dancingbanana: It ain't 30, but it's better than 5.

Will they be plastic or steel mags?

Questar
04-05-2007, 04:08 PM
No pre-orders and no waiting list... sorry.

These will be available through dealers that purchase from us so you could contact you local dealer and see if they'll take an advance order for you.

When they arrive we'll post the info on our website.

Pricing is not final but we expect single unit Retail @ $39.95

They are metal, not plastic... they'll include magpul anti-tilt followers as standard and they are fully stamped/engraved by the manufacturer to clearly identify them as 10 round Pistol Magazines.

RCMP have already sent out notifications to CFC, CBSA, and various law enforcement sections identifying the magazines and confirming that these magazines have been reviewed and classified as 10 Round Pistol Magazines.

I'm a bit confused. Is this a dedicated 10 round magazine or 30 round magazine pinned to 10 and marked as pistol magazine.

The .223/5.56 magazine is a custom manufactured, 10 round magazine, marked during the manufacturing process as a 10 Round Pistol Magazine.

These are not 30 round "pinned" magazines.

Hmmm.....I was hoping they'd be full size. Harder to pull them from a pouch if they're that short.

We'll need XL Magpuls I guess, 10 rounds is much better than 5.;)

Schweettt.

I hope they drop free tho, because thats one short mag and looking at lower I don't see much less than 1/2 an inch sticking out past the lower half of the magwell which would be a bitch to grab and try and change mags.

I'm not gonna' complain 'cause they're shorter...I can't imagine how much more fun a trip to the range is going to be, cutting reload hassles in half. Even with an ammo can full of mags, you end up spending more time loading mags than we do shooting! Thanks to Mark, that'll change!:)

Yes we do plan on selling them directly. Most of the first shipment is probably going to go out to our dealers... if there is inventory left we'll use it to fill retail orders... but we don't plan to accept retail orders until we know what we have available... which is why I've said we won't accept retail orders until the end of the month.

My suggestion is to place your order now through your local dealer. If they don't have them on order then they can contact us to order some.

Come the end of the month we'll start taking retail orders directly.

From the look of the shorter mag, I think they would be a perfect match.:D

The Tactipul Floorplates will be an additional $5 on the magazine, or sold separately at $16.99 for a 3 pak...

They are absolutely great. The standard mags drop free without the Tactipul, but the Tactipul is a really nice feature and the price is right :)

We did make some, but RCMP rejected them as not being designed and manufactured for a Pistol... classified them as "Rifle Magazines" with a maximum capacity of 5 rounds. I don't agree with the decision but I'm not prepared to fund a legal battle to try and have it overturned :(

no ,the printing says RRA-LAR-15, doesnt say they make it. That can get engraved on a norinco mag just as easy, not to suggest thats what they are. I'm just curious as to what they are.
