The recoil spring is much, much longer and larger diameter than the hammer spring.

Sorry, short of having a spring scale - there's no solution. I've been down this road with 1911 springs personally - still have a bag of mystery springs in a drawer here somewhere.
No, and this speaks generally about all firearms manufacturers. In most cases, the manufacturers are getting their springs from the same spring companies that people buy "aftermarket" springs from. Ie. STI installs Wolff Springs.
