Hi.
Just moved to stony plain Alberta from bc. I'm looking for an area to do target practice. Any land owners on here or can anyone recommend a location on crown land?

I live north of Stony Plain. Not much crown land around here. There are some ranges, or you can try to befriend a farmer. Be careful though. Parkland county does not allow discharge of center-fire guns off of ranges. Rimfire discharge is for varmint control on farmer's land only with consent.
I live very close as well. I moved here about 9 years ago,..and still find it difficult to search out new spots to shoot. If you travel about an hour west you can get into some decent crown land.
A map of Crown Land in Alberta is a bit hard to get all organized in one place.
I don't know how it legally works, but practically speaking, this is what I've found:
Alberta is organized into Counties, and those counties seem to organize the lands within their boundaries.
Virtually all of them have maps that display land ownership -- grazing leases included.
The trouble is, for every county you need a new map. Some have them for free online but they are only as big as your monitor/printer (though you can zoom). For paper maps you can peruse at your lesiure, you're going to pay $10-$40 dollars for them. But, if you know what county you plan to do backcountry recreation in, that price pays for itself on the first overnight camp as compared to some of the provincial parks.
Here's a map I use for knowing which county is where in AB; you can also buy county maps from these folks:

There's a few clubs/ranges out west that might work for you. Not sure if they're still taking memberships or not but might be worth checking out.
