    So the compact version cost more then the standard version?

    The top one is a commander-length barrel and the lower is a regular-sized 1911 barrel.

    So unlike the chromed version...the commander version cost more?

    Usually they cost more money for less gun! Probably because they produce fewer commander-length guns.

    Commander holds 8 rounds....Government holds 7 rounds....$20 for that extra round and less weight seems worthwhile to me.....

    Probably because of the 8 round mags more so than the "metal" being saved.
