I had one of the old ones and still have one of the new models in commander length, except mine came with a fiber optic front sight

Here are the main differences I saw:

Old one: they are NOS from the 90'

goods:
- No «Norinco» or «made in China» markings (perfect for a custom build)
- USGI style hammer, sights, trigger, safety (great for a USGI repro build)

Bads:
- They are a little rougher and less refined than the newer ones
- They are more of a hit or miss, some are really tight and have a great finish (like the one I had), and other, on rare occasions, seems to have been put together with a grinder!
- Trigger pull is heavier and less crisp
- Does not come with all the bells and whistles of the newer ones (ambi and oversize controls, better sights, ...)

New ones: New production:
Like I said earlier, these are more refined, comes with nice upgrades out of the box, finish is better, they are tight and have a good trigger pull, but they have those Norinco logos and Made in china written on them, are more expensive, and don't have that USGI looks that many of us likes.

If you plan on shooting it as is, and not spend money on it, definitively go for the newer ones, but if you want to use it as a base for a custom build, and pretty much use it for the frame, which they are EXCELLENT for (awesome metallurgy compared to many 1911 a lot more expensive), than go with the old one.

Hope this helps!
