Punching paper in ideal conditions is not a test for a rifle.ARs work in wet environments they are a disaster insand and dust, which is where aks eat them for lunch in reliability which is also what the tavor was made to do.Not even getting into the ergonomics question here leave that to preference

I love the Tavor, but saying it's better than an AR is a bit much. There's good reason why the vast majority of militaries and police organizations who can procure it do so.
A few google searches shows that a 7.62 x 51 nato version is in the works. Any info on these ?
