    Here is the inside story straight from SAM:

    We don't even make those anymore. The plastic lower is too expensive from the Spanish supplier -yet it is still on our website.

    Nope, the silverballers were based on single stack AMT hardballers, notable for being the first all stainless steel 1911.
    Those can be had for not too much money.
