What do you want to hunt with it and how far do you plan to shoot?

If it's nothing larger than Deer and 300 yards or less the effective difference between a 243 and a 30.06 shrinks quite a bit, in which case ammo options and availability are probably more important.

The best of the best choices would be IMO to buy the rifle in 308 and then get a spare barrel in 6.5

I went with .243 since this will be my main coyote gun.. right now I have my bolt 243 loaded with 55gr ballistic tips shooting ~3850 fps, so I'm hoping I can get a similar round shooting well in the MH. Its secondary roll will be my deer gun which the .243 is an awesome cartridge for as well.

I did the 308 simply because of availability. I will most likely order another barrel in a smaller caliber down the road for coyotes and target

308 because I already reload for it and have alot of supplies. If Rick wants to try I would be interested in a .300wsm....

I wouldn't mine taking mine out to a 1000yds. Realistically I probably won't take it past 700 yards due to range availability etc... Also calibers over .270 are not allowed for hunting in southern Ontario so the 6.5 would be a good choice in that regard.

If they ever get around to the "modern magnum" they have stated that the first choice would be the 300 WM. Personally, inspired by their switch barrel idea with the modern hunter and the 308 family....i would be interested in one that was set for the 2.5" family....264 WM, 7mm RM, 308 NM, 338 WM, 358 NM, ....and although stupid....technically a 458 WM...lol.
A free society must outlaw harming innocent people to function, but when we seek to curtail what all of us can do, rather than holding each of us responsible for what we actually do, we give up on freedom itself.

    I love my .303 British and .308...
Certified Paper Shredder Guns are just as much apart of me as duck tape or WD40.
