Best way to break it in? Shoot, shoot, shoot. There's been no concrete evidence that these ridiculous break in rroutines promote, maintain or increase accuracy in a barrel. You'll just increase wear by over cleaning with these one shot clean routines.

I do, 5 clean, 5 clean for the first 50. I have no rhyme or reason. that's just what I do.

Yeah, I'd like to know as well. They're brass and some sort of rope. I don't understand how either is going to hurt steel. I also subscribe to the "just shoot it" method after an initial cleaning.
It doesn't take much to get something rough imbedded in the bore snake which will damage the barrel all the way down. Remember that when we are talking precision barrels we are talking perfectly smooooooth. Factory barrels not as much of an issue to use a bore snake probably but I still won't use them.
