Cheap enough to be a consumable item.
I will let your misses know to increase the insurance policy.

First we start with a 14.5mm upper, built from surplus KPV barrels (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/KPV_heavy_machine_gun)
Now we just have to lean on Chris a bit to bring in a container full of cheap 14.5x114 ammo!

But, yeah, I'm up for a 20mm too...
Hey hey hey... A few containers of cheap 12.7x99 to go with the current uppers first please...
If you know how many guns you have... you don't have enough

I'm in for a 20mm if the price would be similar to the .50
    Can you reload for 20mm?

Many thanks for the 50 Mr Q. I'd love to own a 20mm but I think sourcing the ammo would be too hard. And reload? Hell it's hard enough to source powder to fill a 7.62x51 let alone a 20x102!

A .416 Barrett might be interesting??

Aside from the higher velocity some ranges are not patterned for 50bmg.

Hey, that reminds me of a conversation I had with the owner of a Lahti L39 anti tank rifle, in 20x138B (Belted)
    ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QS7ss47xmik Starting at 45 sec mark. )
He said he bought a 100lb drum of surplus 20x102mm Vulcan powder, and was quite pleased with his good supply.
Then he said each round uses about 700 grains of powder.
I did the math in my head and replied "So about 1000 shots worth."
"No, a way more than that!" he said.
So I said that a lb is 7000 gr, so 10 shots per lb, times 100 lb equals 1000 shots.
"Damn! I should have bought more powder!"

Looking at 20mm reload components/ammo available in the states (http://www.cdvs.us/20mm-Vulcan-elect...case-P651.aspx).
    $5.95 USD per casing
$19.95 USD resized unprimed per casing
    $127.95-227.95 USD for 100 primers
$29.95 USD per round for target practice round (inert projectile)

Holy Hanna I like to dream expensive!

IIRC, CDVS used to be called Big Sky Surplus, and they were overpriced back then too.

What would one reasonably expect to pay per round for 20mm?
