Can you shoot surplus 308 through these? Will it damage anything in the rifle?

You can shoot anything that cycles through the rifle. The questions is if you would spend $3500-$5000 on a rifle and then put surplus through it...

As stated in all of the threads surrounding the Modern Hunter, the hammer spring weight is much lighter being as it is a single stage match trigger with a 4lb pull weight than what is typically found in standard AR style rifles. as a consequence there is a high probability that you will have large numbers of light firing pin strikes on surplus ammo due to the fact that almost all of the cheap surplus ammo has hard cup primers as it is intended for use in machine guns, rather than high tolerance precision rifles.
The use of decent surplus ammo will NOT damage the rifle, just probably won't light up the primers consistently, which I want to point out is NOT a rifle problem but an ammo problem.
If your intent is to shoot crap ammo you would be better to buy a mil-surp or battle style rifle.

Good to hear decent surplus ammo can be used in a "precision" barrel.

After the precision shooting I like to blast at least a box of NORC 308 ammo at all the abandon clays; nothing like reactive targets. 40c a shoot with NORCs, buck+ for my handloads, both do same job at clays.

Revolvers RULE; remember that next time you BEND over to pick up brass OR ejected brass pings off the precision gear.
Looking for a car pool buddy for weekly weekday trips from Burnaby to POCO. Better yet I'll drive weekly and you take me hunting.

Yep if you have a Norinco M14 thy work grate with surplus ammo
I shot cheep 308 in my Norinco m14 but would not shoot it in a MH
I think of a m14 as a do everything rifle
To me the MH is a specialize hunting rifle and needs a specielize ammo

I would shoot hirtenberg or what ever it's called, but not Norc in my rifle. Just my personal preference.

Hirtenberger is quality surplus, my AR, FNAR and many more are very accurate with them, sure the MH would crave on them... JP.
