    Knight's Armament LMG

Need help in the fight against ISIS?

Knight's Armament and One Shot Tactical can help.

The Knight’s Armament Company Light Machine Gun ranks as the world’s most lightweight, simple, versatile, and controllable light machine gun. Eliminating the need for a bolt buffer mitigates recoil effect common to machine guns, as there is no impact of the bolt on the end of its stroke, making the gun very easy to control – even in long bursts. The LMG features a hybrid modular MIL-STD-1913/KeyMod forend and an underslung mounting slot for accepting standard and improved 5.56 mm belted ammunition containers. The LMG is extremely accurate due to the secure mounting of the “quick change” barrel, and the reduced length feed cover design, which accommodates loading and unloading without disturbing the zero of rearward mounted optics or sights.

Knight’s Armament has designed and built the most controllable and lightweight machine guns in its class with the Stoner LMG. This is a belt-fed support weapon capable of suppressive or grazing fire while still being easily transportable and controllable. It is fed either from a 100-round sack or a 200-round box filled with linked 5.56 ammunition. The amount of rounds being put downrange by this type of weapon makes a magazine fed system impractical.

In a belt fed weapon, certain mechanical parts are synced together and operated by the motion of the weapon’s bolt. These parts are responsible for gripping the linked ammo belt and drawing them into the weapon’s chamber. They then reset and are ready to drag the next cartridge into place. As the bolt moves forward, the cartridge is pushed forward, out of the links, and is driven in front of the bolt face. The weapon cycles as a regular gas-impingement system will, firing the round and extracting the empty cartridge and used links. The pawl then drags the next round into place and the cycle repeats.

Knight’s Armament has pioneered a unique and highly effective method for reducing weight and stress, while effectively dissipating heat in our barrels. Several of our weapon systems feature a Ball Mill Lightened, or Dimpled Barrel.

This process reduces the overall weight of the barrel and effectively increases the surface area, allowing it to cool faster than a standard or fluted barrel. The pattern of dimpling (rows of offset spheres) allows the stress inherently created by the process to be relieved by adjacent rows of dimpling. Any barrel with this sort of alteration has a natural yaw that will occur while firing; however, this dimpling pattern greatly reduces that undesired side effect. These barrels are extremely reliable, lightweight, quickly cooled, and accurate components.

These are amazing little machine guns. Can you explain some of the updates that are coming in the Gen 2 version currently being shown on KAC's site?
