    .17 WSM in Robinson XCR

since there are ARs already produced in .17wsm, with piston design (I could get a upper drop on my lower and swap out mag, bcg, buffer and spring.)
would it be possible for Robinson arms to produce a upper or complete rifle in .17 wsm? while I understand R&D is expensive and has to be cost effective, but in
my honest and non professional opinion, if they could manage to produce a 30rd magazine. it will sell like hot cakes in this country.
unlimited rounds capacity (check) for a rimfire.
20 grain bullet, muzzle velocity (MV) of 3000 fps (check)
    low-recoil (check)
low noise compared to centrefire (check)
and most importantly it will be NON restricted .

I could be dreaming here of course, I'm getting a .17wsm upper for range use, would love to own a NR rimfire black rifle for serious hunting use.
    Get some!!! ^^

What do you think people would be willing to pay for an upper like that? A complete upper for an XCR is not an inexpensive item. I honestly don't just see it as something that would economically feasible for a rimfire.

Probably not if Savage ever gets off their butt and gets the .17HMR Semi into Canada at the price mark expected.

Its a nice idea but a drop in .22lr conversion that used the .223rem barrel would be more popular and much cheaper.
I can't see people paying 1500$+ for a 2-3moa questionably reliable semi-auto .17wsm upper. A .22lr conversion would be nice plus would cost just as much if not less then a tacticooled 10/22(450-750$).

while I totally agree that it does not make sense to drop that kinda of cash for a .22lr or even a .17 HMR upper,
but considring .17 WSM's prformance listed below, I'm willing to pay north of 1k for such upper or conversion barrel + bolt + magazines etc etc, whichever is cheaper for them to produce.
    Muzzle / -1.5" / 3000 fps / 400 ft. lbs.
    25 yds / -0.3" / 2872 fps / 366 ft. lbs.
    50 yds / +0.6" / 2747 fps / 335 ft. lbs.
    75 yds / +1.2" / 2626 fps / 306 ft. lbs.
    100 yds / +1.5" / 2508 fps / 279 ft. lbs.
    125 yds / +1.5" / 2394 fps / 254 ft. lbs.
    150 yds / +1.0" / 2283 fps / 231 ft. lbs.
    175 yds / +0.2" / 2175 fps / 210 ft. lbs.
    200 yds / -1.1" /2069 fps / 190 ft. lbs.
    225 yds / -2.9" / 1966 fps / 172 ft. lbs.
    250 yds / -5.3" / 1867 fps / 155 ft. lbs.

and just for comparision, .17 WSM is more powerful than the FN commercial 5.7×28mm used in their FN PS 90 PDW rifles, .17wsm's performance is similar to FN's restricted military 5.7x28 rounds.

    FN commercial
    Name AE5728A
    Projectile weight 2.6 g (40 gr)
    Muzzle velocity (P90) 579 m/s (1,900 ft/s)
    Muzzle energy (P90) 439 J (324 ft·lb)
    Projectile type TMJ
    Effective range 200 m (660 ft) −

Your biggest issue will be 17 WSM can not produce high enough gas pressure to drive the XCR piston. RA had to shorten the piston system down to the same length as the Micro XCR to get 300 Blk with a pressure rating of 55,000 psi to cycle, 17 WSM only has a pressure rating of 33,000 psi it is simply too anemic.

    so make it blowback.

Love to have a semi in .17WSM. Unlimited mag cap, low recoil, lower noise. Get it in a non restricted package for an affordable price and you have a winner.
