I used Hoppes #9. Then some Frog Lube. But there is still something there.
Also mine shot low til I put it on about 7 and now it's good.

Yeah, I wiped mine down with CLP, but, as you say, 'there is still something there.' Time and some hard use and cleaning will enable us to see how it stands up.

I figure that the sights are exact copies of the originals, which would've been calibrated for the 'Kurz' cartridge with different ballistics than the .22lr.
So my 50yd zero with "05" showing in the little window, would've been 500m(?) for the Kurz.
The Bedienungsanleitung is no help at all in this regard.

I tried g96, maybe ill try again lol. Anyone else install their scope mount? I havent got around to it yet.

Waiting for my scope to arrive, will install it next weekend hopefully

Try putting a magnet to it . It's not steel

I just field stripped mine for its first cleaning after 250rd yesterday. With all the major bits on the table I felt compelled to get out a magnet
and start going over it to find out what stuck to it and what didn't.

What DID:
--The barrel
--The handguard
--The bolt
--The master pin
--The forward pin
--The hammer
--The sight post


What didn't:
--The rear sight (& spring)
--The receiver/upper
--The pistol grip frame/trigger guard/lower
--The forward (non-wood) section of the buttstock
--The first 6" of barrel (!?)
--The 'muzzle cover'
--The trigger
--'et al'...

Bits that rang like steel when rapped on w/ screwdriver
even tho not attracting magnet:
--The aft tubular part of the 'upper' receiver
--The first 6" of barrel
--The non-wood section of the buttstock (DING-DING!)
--Nearly everything else mentioned above--If they didn't 'ring'
they at least made a metallic sound as opposed to a plasticky sound.

Just because a magnet does'nt stick to it does not mean the part is plastic.
It might be cast aluminum, or SS, or some other nonferrous metal. Or it could be
...a "polymer". But that's OK in the right places. Look at an AR--about half of it's
made out of plastic, but many of those have been running for forty years or more.

OK, so I would like to know what these StGs are made out of. Surely someone out
there ought to be able to tell us-- Is the receiver cast aluminum, or is it plastic??
And why won't my magnet stick to the barrel?

What happens to pot metal rifling after a few thousand rounds and regular scrubbing with a bronze bore brush?
Can the barrels be replaced? Is this the difference between a $600 dollar replica and a $4000(+) original? Funny how no one seems to have
noticed this until now.

Suddenly my $200 SKS is beginning to look pretty good.

just out of curiousity why the assumption on pot metal? There are lots of alloy castings available that aren't pot metal these days. Try sticking a magnet to the upper or lower on an AR....that doesn't make them pot metal. Pot metal was very common years ago but there are lots of stronger alloy commonly in use. If it is such a huge concern email GSG and ask them. I think you will find that it isn't pot metal
