Can the sling plate be removed, and will this fit traditional ball detent style 870 barrels?

yes and yes
the 3 position sling plate comes un installed, its a simple c clip that hols it in place

Got an other one for ya. I have a 870P with a +2 extension. What spring can be used when I swap it for a +1?

a standard 4+1 shot mag spring that comes with sporting 870 works,
our +1 comes with a 7 shot spring which if needed can be cut to fit, the reason we supply the +1 with a 7 shot mag spring is because many are using the +1 on the new fixed 6rd 870 magpul tactical.
