So I received the magazine today.

    The Good

    • I was pleasantly surprised by the build quality. I perceive it to be the equivalent of the original magazine in terms of sturdiness and quality. If I were to close my eyes and handle the magazines I might not be able to tell them apart.

    The Bad

    • To say that the magazine is a tight fit in the magazine well is being polite. After loading it with dummy rounds and inserting it into the rifle I thought the magazine was jammed. The magazine doesn't seem to engage the magazine lock.

    • The magazine (initially, will doubtless change with some smithing) doesn't engage the bolt hold open, nor does it feed ammunition

    • Internally pinned. I hate that.

At any rate, upon inspection it would appear that I will have to grind off a little of the feed lips in order to have ammunition feed from the magazine. My eyeball suggests that the feed lips are a touch bit longer than those on the OEM magazine that came with my SVT-40.

Despite whatever work this requires, initially satisfied with the aftermarket magazine. If I can get the first one working I will probably order at least one more.

Any one else grind down the feed lips, or did you simply have to manipulate the feed lips up or down to feed properly? Any issues inserting/removing the magazine into the well?

Don't grind the feed lips !!!! On the one I had, the engagement nubs on the back of the magazine were too high on the magazine so the bolt would ride over the cases without picking up a shell. I filed off the top of these nubs a little so the mag sits farther up in the Magwell . The magazine is a little sloppy but the bolt holdback works and the mag feeds about 90%. I never got a chance to try adding material to the bottom of those nubs to take up the slop but I think that would make the mag 100% reliable like the others I had.

On the two I got (this was a couple years ago), it was a matter of bending the feed lips up a little to allow the bullets to sit just a bit higher, so the bolt would catch them on the return. It took a bit of fiddling to get it to the point where they would still retain the bullets, but let them sit high enough to feed.

The only grinding was on the rear tab that the mag catch grabs.

Thinking it over I'd have to agree with both of you that the primary culprit is the rear magazine nub.

It's great that someone is actually making aftermarket magazines for the SVT....but $95 for a magazine you have to work on that much!! At that price the fit should be perfect.

I'll stick with the two mine came with until the quality improves a little. Maybe the next batch will be better....here's hoping.

Doh! I just broke my tripod. Hopefully my replacement comes soon and I'll create something.

If it does not fit use gunsmith if you do not know what are you doing.
Can't we just find original mags?

Original mags are gone. All sold. Also each mag on original svt is still adjusted to each svt.

I found a couple useful videos on Youtube compliments of Mosinvirus. I just got my mag today and followed what he did. It worked great.
