    Gun Ranges Across Canada

It has occurred to me that there are probably lots of us out there that are curious about the different ranges etc across this big and beautiful country. I know here on the prairies we tend to think of ranges as a more wide open, gravel bermed type of setup, where they are run on the honour system.

I've often thought that I should be checking out ranges etc on my travels to see the differences etc. I know that some of the Rod and Gun associations out there are much like country clubs, with camping etc available.

How about you tell us about some of the really great facilities you use or have seen here in Canada. It gives a good plug for them and allows the rest of us to hear about the places where our fellow members shoot.

    I'll start it off.

Here at the shop we are lucky to have the Fort La Bosse Classical Arms Gun Club on the same property.

It is really a great range. The rifle range is 300 yards long and there are 4 pistol bays that are 40 yards long.
Our membership fees are incredibly reasonable and the range is open dawn til dusk except during big game seasons.
Getting into the pistol bays can be a little fun sometimes during the winter LOL.

This is something I've been wondering about, so I'm glad you've brought it up. I wouldn't mind volunteering to make a database or spreadsheet with all the provinces, gun ranges, number of bays, distances, addresses, opening hours, rules/limitations for each range.

    In the GTA (Ontario) at least; they are;
    -overpriced
    -exclusive
-require blood/semen sample prior to joining
    -full
    -too far away to drive

    or a combination thereof.

I sold all my resrtricteds save one for the aforementioned reasons.
Lots of nooks and crannies to to take the unrestricted out to on the other hand within reasonable driving distance.

    Neat idea.

I might as well shill for the local Regina Wildlife Federation range.

-Rifle range (25m, 100m, 200m, 300m) with 6-7 shooting benches plus room for prone shooters
    -Rimfire range (75m)
    -Black powder range (200m)
-RWF pistol range (15m, 25m, 50m standard target range)
-RAPS pistol range (IPSC practical shooting)
-another 50m pistol range (PPC police combat shooting or something. I honestly don't know these guys very well, but it looks interesting)
-shotgun/trap range (plus additional ranges available for other sporting clay events)
-biathlon club (shared range facilities & adjacent ski trails)
    -Archery range

-New Indoor Pistol Range opening soon (modern facility with proper ventilation system based on NRA indoor range guidelines. It took years of fund raising to get this far because doing it right costs a lot of money)

Also a clubhouse that seats 150 people (popular for weddings), a picnic area & a playground.

I'm a member of the Calgary and District Target Shooters Association. (google cdtsa for more info)
They have two ranges; Shepherd and Milo.
The Shepherd range is within Calgary city limits. It has a 25m handgun range, 50/100m rifle range, archery range, and a trap shooting range.
The Milo range is about 1 hour outside of Calgary. It has a 50/100/200m rifle range, 300/400/500m rifle range, and 6 (I would guess 25-50m) ranges for any type of firearm.
A couple of pictures of the Milo range a took early this summer:

An overview of the 50/100/200m range. The longer range can be seen in the foreground:

Here is the 300/400/500m range. It is still under construction in the picture, but has since been completed:

You need to be a member to get access, or accompany a member with a guest pass. It is well worth the reasonably priced membership.
