    Buying my first ever firearm.

    Howdy all,

So I recently received my PAL and figured it was about time I owned my first firearm. After much research I've decided on a bolt action .22LR. Further research and budgetary limits have narrowed my search down to either a Marlin XT-22R or a Savage Arms Mark II (either model F or G).

At the current moment I am leaning towards the Savage MK II G due to its wood stock, a Mail in Rebate of $25 and that they are made in Ontario(if I'm not mistaken).

Just wanted to get some opinions on either gun because I don't have much experience myself. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

    Cheers.

Both are good choice's. Everyone should own a 22lr, lots of fun and won't break the bank.
    Happy shooting!
Personally tho I would get the Savage

I own the savage. It is a great gun. Accurate right out of the box.

I have both - I lean slightly towards the Marlin (which does come in a wood stock, just FYI....).

I enjoy both rifles though, both are very accurate and both actions cycle very well. Never had any problem with either one.

I'd go with savage. Both decent options though.

You would be better off to save some more money , and buy a 22 semi.....preferably a Ruger 10-22 in stainless . I have both bolt and semi 22s ; and the semis are a lot more fun.....you will end up buying a semi eventually anyway...
