A mini305 would be just the ticket. Look at the following the m305 has, now imagine a lighter, handier and hell of a lot cheaper too feed bang stick. Ruger mini about 4-500 too much imo.

The Mini-14 is essentially a downscaled M-14, thus the name.
I don't know what the legality/ risk of cloning it is. Nobody bothers in the US because you can just make a better AR for less.
But in Canada we have the arbitrary non-restricted/restricted classification.
It can be a 223 semi on any design, I just picked Mini-14 because of its arbitrary unrestricted-ness.
With mags there always one question ,how many ?
