Dear Friends, colleagues and business partners
All of us in the industry are saddened and shocked at the recent events in Paris.
Many of us have been predicting something like this could have happen. Many however in the political class have chosen to ignore the root cause of this problem but in response some of Europe’s politicians have chosen to attack private firearm ownership. We see absolutely no connection between these crimes and law abiding gun ownership. In fact we find it most disturbing. This attack includes a proposed ban on all semi-automatic rifles and pistol commonly used for spotting purposes. These misguided individuals are trying to make our industry the whipping boy in lieu of the real cause of the attacks. As far as we know the weapons and explosives used in the Paris attacks were obtained illegally and smuggled into France by the terrorists. Criminals and terrorist do not obtain their weapon by going through the already stringent licensing procedures that are in place in all countries in Europe.
We see this very simply, many of Europe’s lawmakers have ignored the problem that has created the current situation. These same lawmaker now want to appear like they have taken action want to penalise Europe’s most law-abiding, loyal and personally vetted populace, the legal the gun owner. If these terrorist, have had to go through half of the background checks and scrutiny that gun-owners have to go through to buy a firearm all of these murders could have been stopped before they even became radicalised.
To counter this foolish and dangerous proposal there is a petition circulating to let these legislators know how we feel. This is not like in the United States where gun ownership is a right. In most countries in Europe gun ownership is a privilege. Privilege can very easily revoked for no reason at all. This is what they want to do. This isn’t about business or our bottom line. This is about ignorant politicians.
