some of the offerings on marstar's site would be PERFECT for my vz58 if it was in 5.56 caliber instead of 7.62x39. i really wish they had 7.62x39 BDC options as well .
edit: like this one seems good

Up here in Canada we have absolutely no good affordable options for 7.62x39 BDC reticle.
Only choices we have are the Nikon 300 blackout lines and Acogs... both options are $800+...
I have given up at trying to get a Primary Arms optic over and am now deciding on a fixed power P4 reticle Ncstar or a non magnified microdot...
I use the Mark III Tactical Gen 2 model on my Vz.58 with the side mount.
I went with this one because I found other variable power scopes tended to hang over the breech and then get constantly smacked by ejected brass leading to cases bouncing back into the chamber. Rather annoying.
My thoughts? The first one I bought earlier this year (April/May) had the ocular lens pop out after a little more than 3,000 rounds and Marstar very kindly replaced it. The replacement has only been on my Vz.58 for about 1,000 rounds but so far it seems to be working. Is it the equivalent of a mid- to high-end scope? No, it costs $140 for a reason. That said, it works pretty well for what it is. Decent eye relief, clear image with not much distortion and it holds zero. I won't speak to ruggedness as my first experience with this scope didn't end well and until I have thousands of rounds more on the rifle with this scope on it, I won't be able to form a particularly informed opinion on that aspect.
Short version: I don't hate this scope, and I do hate easily.
Guns, Jeeps, fishing and rye -- the cornerstones of a happy life.
I had an NC Star scope that didn't last one shot, to me that is pure junk. Thats enough to scare me away from them.
No, I actually find the eye relief to be comfortable. I was worried that having a compact scope would cause issues but the way I have it set up is comfortable for me.
Here's a poor picture of it that I took a few weeks ago when I last had it out at the range. I probably could (and should) move the scope a bit forward but I'm paranoid after my last scope (longer in length) was constantly being hammered by brass. I won't because the damned thing works and every time I tinker I end up screwing something up:
Guns, Jeeps, fishing and rye -- the cornerstones of a happy life.
exactly.....well said also
maybe the company is misrepresenting its product....to attract the types of dealers who do this. Im not saying marstar does....but how come nc star doesn't address this issue....in my opinion, they simply don't care...its simply a marketing strategy......
myself I went with the Hi-Lux AK CMR.....wont mention the dealer out of respect for the thread...but its a great scope for the 7.62x39 caliber...and the only truly dedicated com bloc ballistic reticle I could find...other than some of the side mount Russian stuff...which are decent scopes...but sit awkwardly high and off center for a comfortable, static.. cheek weld...
