Exclamation How To Guide: embedding pictures into you post

Disclaimer, I copied most of the text from another forum I frequent and changed the links to apply to this forum because hey, why re-write an already good book. Partial credit goes to snakers@westernsubaruclub

"The upload folder is full. What do I do?"
"I can't attach my pics, they're too big!"
"I've never used a forum before."
*goes crosseyed and jumps off a cliff*

If any of these statements or actions have applied to you, then here are some answers.

If you want to put pictures into your post, please create an account on a photo hosting site. This allows people to see FULL size pics in full quality.

Create an account on a photo hosting site. Here are a few suggestions.
    http://photobucket.com/
    http://www.flickr.com/
    http://picasaweb.google.com/
    http://imageshack.us/
    http://www.google.ca/#hl=en&source=h...ef83dc48050ee0

All of these sites have free and subscription options. They all have their ups and downs, pros and cons. They also have their own purposes. Make sure you choose the right one, or you'll have things happen that you didn't want to happen. Run out of bandwidth, run out of space, have pictures "disappear".
Flickr is a photographer community. It allows you to comment on and tag photos.
Photobucket is starting to add more and more features like flickr, but I find it to be more of a picture dumping site.
I deal with photobucket, so I'll give you some pointers on how to use the site here.
I'm not going to teach you how to take a picture and upload it. You can finger that out.
What I will show you is how to get the uploaded photo into a post on CGN.

    Photobucket
First, figure out what works for you.
    http://photobucket.com/pricing

Once the photo is uploaded, Photobucket gives you a list of ways you can share them.
Note that CGN uses BBCode, so you will want to look for the [ img] tag lines. In the below example, it's the highlighted option.

Now you can paste that code into your post, like so:

Hit post, and you will see your fancy picture now embedded in the post!!

Just to add to this....when you select the code provided (say from photobucket) with the [img] code, remove the [url] code around it. This code and link will direct the person back to photobucket and your library. Without the [url] code, there is no redirection.
    Prost!

I post pics on all my ads. Have never used a photo hosting site. Those links don't work often and the pics are of poor quality. Just follow the process here on cgn through your post and file management options. You can upload right to cgn, no need for any hosting site. Unless you absolutely can't get it to work here. Personally, I find the ads on photobucket etc annoying and usually skip over that ad. My 2 cents.

Thanks zibbit, I will give this a whirl but first, I have to work on taking worthwhile photos. One other thing: rascal1 is a "GunNutz" meaning
that he has a paid membership with CGN which entitles him to perks such as photo hosting direct to the forum (or so I understand).

Even using photobucket I still can't get the pics to show up full size most times. I have to figure out the proper size to appear properly when posted .

Magellann, it probably has something to do with how you setup the folder. Look for options in Photobucket on size of the upload.

Yes....if you pay for a CGN membership. If you don't, you must use a hosting site. As for the ads, see my first port. If you remove the [url] tags and extra link from your photobucket link, then you won't be redirected and you won't see the ads. Simple.
    Prost!

Tagged for reference. Thanks to zibbit and berger for the info. Now if I can get my quote bubbles to work properly instead of saying
Quote around the original message I'll be set.
