    Most ranges will allow .22 rifles indoors while most will not allow centrefire rifles. So theres that.

    But really, cost is the main factor. Its BY FAR the cheapest shooting option you can choose. And due to its low recoil it also allows you to focus on the fundamentals of shooting while not being scared of it.

    I think everyone should own atleast 1 .22lr for plinking, it's a cheap round to shoot even though it isn't as fun you still get to go out shooting! Also the fact that rimfires aren't affected by the magazine restrictions is also a nice bonus.
