Question about restricted's and going to the range

    Good afternoon everyone,

I have acquired my restricted PAL and I own a few restricted hand guns. The process of becoming a member at a range seems to be long and arduous and I am dying to shoot my guns. Is it legal for my friend who has his restricted gun license and permanent ATT to a range to take me and my handguns to a legal range for an afternoon of target practice? (keep in mind I do not have an ATT)

I really hope to get some feedback.

    Yes

If you lend them to him and he gets an STATT

Get your buddy to email you an Invitation to go shooting with him at his Range. I thought everyone had a ATT attached to their licence now, maybe I am wrong. You might have to call the cfo to get a short term att to go to the range. they may ask you for the invitation letter to have your Buddy write down the Name of the Range and the Location. Should not be that hard.

I'm surprised you were allowed to acquire restricted firearms without a range membership.
    What province?

I'm guessing Ontario. I had my pistol home before they knew of my range membership. I called in to tell them I had it and was going to provide details, but they said they didn't need it.

Having a membership shouldn't be a condition of getting a PAL. That is a pant load.

Range membership is not a requirement to getting a PAL, it is however a CFO requirement in many provinces as proof that you are buying your restricted for the legal purpose of target shooting. With out that proof of membership your purchase, even though you are legally allowed to buy restricted via your federal firearms license, can be denied by your CFO.

Also I would call the CFO or have your buddy call the CFO to ensure his/her ATT allows for transportation of restricted not registered to him/her! If not then they can get a Temp or Short term ATT to transport them for a specific time/date(s) and location(s).

Until and unless, Trudeau-Lite/Liberals change it - your "ATT" is now part of your R-PAL. As mentioned, get your buddy to e-mail you an invite and you're good to go. If you're in my neck of the woods, get back to me - I'll take you.

If you have an ATT (see special conditions listed on that little piece of paper that came with your license) Then yes, Fire@will is correct, get an email invite from your friend and go have fun.

I am a member of a local gun range. I have a 3 month probation period. I'm not allowed to bring my own restricted guns to the range until I pass a written test. Better find out what the range policy is first.
