Does this kit have the bolt hold open feature or do you have to buy that part separately?
yea, what he said. subbing for that part.

I don't have this kit, but i found a video, and it seems like the follower on the magazine is what holds the bolt back.

how well do they function?
dont sweat the petty things, and dont pet the sweaty things
Bolt hold open is an add on for these kits check cmmg website for the part number and compare with this one. My kit functions flawlessly in my norinco have shot well over 500 rounds through it. As has been said the follower I'm the mag locks the bolt open but it drops when you pull the mag. Worth every penny in my book.
Still Available. Low Stock.

These kits are awesome. I've got one.
The follower in the mag holds the bolt open on the last round, but when you pull the mag out the bolt will close.
I think there are some additional parts they make as add-on's that allow proper bolt-hold-open. It's never bothered me, and I've got thousands of rounds through mine
Only thing is debris from the ammo can clog your gas tube. Easy fix is to fire a couple 5.56 after the .22 to blast it all out.
I got this from Arms East a while back
It does hold open at last round.
Works great, rarely have any hiccup, like rarely.
I have one (have had it for about 3 years) and it functions great. I haven't shot it a ton, but a few range sessions of a few hundred rounds each. Reliability is almost 100% (think I had a hiccup once or twice which could be ammo). Accuracy from my DD 14.5" was mediocre, but good enough to practice all your action carbine mechanics and make hits on paper.
