Try 3" Hornady Heavy Magnum Coyote OO... 1.5 ounces (15 pellets) of nickle plated OO buck at 1300fps. It's pretty much the only buckshot shell I have seen that I would load for bears. 9 pellet reduced recoil loads are for mice in the basement

I've found that 480's at 1650-1700 are near max. Not quite, but close enough for me.
