After doing the programming without, n then with the cable? No comparison! So many more options with the cables and so much easier n faster with the cable n Chirp!
Buy one from online if CanAm doesn't have any BC!

I wouldn't want to program manually, cables and chirp software all the way. Once you figure it out its so easy. Edit and add channels in minutes
Manual programing is a piece of cake when you have the freq & cts/dcs codes if applicable .
Only reason I want the cable is so I can name the channels

I tested the radio with a Coworker on the frs channel in urban Surrey BC. Using the factory HG antenna in the open from King George skytrain station to Scott Rd sky train station parking lot ~3.1Km straight line distance. Got some static but was able to send and receive calls. Power setting on high. There's a lot of buildings and good grade difference between the two point. I have a couple of Nagoya 701C antennas on the way but very happy with the factory performance so far.

Tested on GMRS with low power in a rural town with Nayoga 771 ordered from Amazon, one radio was inside the house, another one was in a moving car... Getting clear communications up to 1.1 miles, signals started to drop after 1.5 miles...
I accidentally dropped the radio onto some paints, then washed the paint off in the kitchen sink... it is not a water proof unit, however after removed its battery and left the unit on floor heat register for a day, it is alive again... everything is working like new... Solid radio, highly recommended...
If you ever get a radio or cellphone wet and want to save it, use a vacuum cleaner. Take the tube end of the vacuum hose and cup your hand around it. Press the device against your hand and move it around to every opening and try to make a seal between your hand and the device. You'll hear the vacuum work harder when your doing it right. Of course remove the battery first.
It will suck all the moisture out of radio/phone, even from behind glass display. I recently saved a Samsung S7 that was submersed for over 10 minutes.
