I've seen surplus steel mags available for as little as $7 each stateside.

Even new production AK mags can be price competitive, Magpuls for example can be had for only $14 USD each.
I know exactly what you mean, but when you then do the conversion, add import fees, shipping taxes etc....

I had several Valmets in 7.62x39 (which took AK mags) and even then they weren't cheap to import

The AK mags are considerably cheaper to begin with however, comparing apples to apples.

Also it seems that surplus Vz58 mags are drying up, so they're bound to be a lot more expensive in the future.
Canada is done, save the West.

call of duty has AK74's? maybe thats why.

VZ mags are lighter and have bolt hold open. the AK has a hope of a pistol mag, very expensive bolt hold open mags. other than that it is a waste of time.

I'm betting the SKS conversions overall will have sold more than this rifle will. They take AK mags along with the old SKS-D and such. That and AR offerings like the CMMG mutant.

Price is still higher... even a couple thousand mags doesn't adjust market price.

VZ polymer mags are very good and should be a good supply for a long time. Priced at $30 or so. I don't think AK mags will come in much cheaper, and they are quite a bit heavier and no bolt hold open. I think too much redesign needed for the AK mag and it will bring rifle price up.

Polymer VZ58 mags works very good.

Glad I bought a bunch at 18$ + free shipping when they came out :P

An adjustable gas port would be cool. So would a rear peep. Keep vz mags, but a way to use ak forends would be amazing

Keep it simple, reliable, and keep the price down. I'm partial to the sight hoods that don't go all the way around. CZ style not VZ style.
