I understand. These are not high volume items. It is worth noting that there are a few dealers that stock some high end 1911s and these 1911s do sell - sometimes quickly.
Speaking for myself, with all the options out there that are readily available, I probably would not special order a Springfield even though i've heard good things. But if one was readily available and 'competitively priced' with other semi-customs, I might take a chance. Anyway, it might not hurt to float a trial balloon at some point.
I guess 'competitively priced' is an important qualifier. If these Custom shop models come in around $2500 or at least less than 3K (e.g. Les Baer or higher end STI territory), there might be some interest. If they are 4k+, that could definitely be a harder sell for a Springfield.
