Ok up to now - lots of leeway for a new member but now I have to say it's time for you to start looking and listening and thinking before posting as you obviously do not have a lot of experience in either the English language or firearms that I can see.

There are a lot of experts here on CGN but you wouldn't know that yet. That's why it's better to ask questions but not offer advice on things you don't know. People will always have patience and time for information seekers rather than dis-information givers. I see from one of your other posts that you are from China. Maybe a couple of our many expert Asian members can PM and help you understand the etiquette of posting so everyone can benefit from your input.

My comments are meant to be helpful & hopefully taken that way,
    Miike

No, they were correct. They said OAL length, not bbl length.

So then if the muzzle device is permanently fixed does it only count for OAL length and NOT barrel length ?

Barrel length does not include devices attached to the barrel. Ie muzzle brakes.

Overall length is from one end of the firearm to the other in its most collapsed, fire-able state.

I'm sure someone will copy and paste the legal version

    Criminal Code section 84:

    Barrel length

    (2) For the purposes of this Part, the length of a barrel of a firearm is

    (a) in the case of a revolver, the distance from the muzzle of the barrel to the breach end immediately in front of the cylinder, and

    (b) in any other case, the distance from the muzzle of the barrel to and including the chamber,

but does not include the length of any component, part or accessory including any component, part or accessory designed or intended to suppress the muzzle flash or reduce recoil.

AFAIK, "overall length" is not defined in either the criminal code or the regulations. Basic definition for "overall" is "taking everything into account", so that would include butt spacers and anything attached to the muzzle (anything you need a tool to detach). Ravohs had a good concept for it, I think: shortest length of the firearm in its fire-able state.

In terms of say..an 870 barrel, does it start at the chamber, or is the extra side part that locks it into the receiver counted? And for handgun barrels, feed ramp included as the entire piece of metal is the barrel?

    2009....

Overall... is end to end. Shortest collapsed length if stock is collapsible and gun is still fireable.

Breechface to muzzleface, except for revolvers.
