    This is getting interesting.....

Thinking aloud, since a .44 Rem Magnum in a lever gun works well as a short range deer round, how would the performance of .45ACP soft points in a carbine compare as a bush gun for deer? As a combination small game and deer rifle, this rifle sounds really intriguing.

BTW, the military mauser look is the cooler of the two

    Regards,

    Frank

Guys get some pretty good velocities out of .44 mag and .45 colt with the longer rifle barrels. Just looking in my reloading manual and the top velocity shown for a 230 gr bullet with 16 1/2" barrel is 800 fps for .45 ACP. That's not any better then I can do with my 1911. Maybe some loads using slower powders would make better use of the longer barrels?

Just thinking out loud here, but what if a guy used 45 Super brass?? I'm sure I've read articles about it, and it is the same as the 45 acp, only with stronger/thicker brass and going about 300 fps faster IIRC. That might pep it up a bit.....

Tagged for consideration. I am really a semi guy though but this may be an exception and I am far from being closed minded.
