it is many moons later and i am still having the same problem, sometimes i just wanna shoot in the bush but never know where to go. although now i live in Leduc not Edmonton. and i googled my question found this thread read the whole thing and then realized that it was me who posted it and laughed really hard at my stupidity. but i maintain the same question in a sense. Who owns land near leduc who will let me use it from time to time?

I have been going out to the location in Bruderheim for some time now, never had any problems, and we are one of about 4 or 5 groups of people that go out there on a regular basis.
The next closest place for outdoor shooting would be Fort Assiniboine (Holmes Crossing) or Groat Creek Road in Whitecourt.
I'm not sure of many locations south of Edmonton, we did however just spend the weekend a little west of Rocky Mountain House off Hwy 11 on some crown land... we owned the whole bush, didn't see another person in there for the whole weekend.
I have been playing by a couple rules and so far, so good. Don't cross any fences, Do Not go down dirt roads that have signs posted at the end, fenced or not... they are leased. and when it comes to camping leave nothing behind but flat grass where you're tent was.
Check this link out, it has a list of all the PLUZ's in Alberta and has been very helpful so far.

and i will also be buying more. as soon as i find somewhere reliable and close to shoot i will be buying one of those sks packs with 1400 rounds

All the years I lived in Leduc I went hunting around the Brazeau Dam area around lodgepole but have not been out that way in 10 years or so.

[QUOTE=Dacton;4819253]I go around Bruderheim/Redwater area. I think thats the closest crown land where you can shoot. Just watch out for quaders/dirtbikers and whatnot during the weekend, I recommend going during the week. Its north of fort sask, about a 40 min drive from Edmonton. Also make sure you know what your shooting at and where your bullets going, also drive into the bush a little, stay away from the roads. Theres a few open sand pits if you can find one, best to set up a target going into the side of a hill.

I found another spot NE of this area, labelled on the map as North Bruderheim Natural Area, found a spot where it looks like tons of people shoot but its really messy. There is furniture and TV's and glass everywhere, but its easy to get to even in our Versa. We would love to help clean it up if someone has a truck to take it all to the dump, if anyone would like to do this send me an e-mail.

Anyways, here is where we go and its really easy to find.

UPDATE: YOU CAN'T SHOOT HERE ANYMORE
Found this old thread through google, and some things have changed from the start. The recreational area was re-classified, so you can't target shoot. You can hunt, but you need a discharge permit. Details:

Have not done much shooting on crown land but with all the restrictions the CFO is putting on the ranges it is getting tougher and tougher to justify renewing at Spruce Grove for $200 plus per year. would love to find a great place to shoot in the bush with room to stretch out to longer ranges.
