Someone could probably rebarrel one of these for 18.5 inches, and make it non-restricted.

Then it would be a great companion for a Mosin Nagant M91/30...

The only thing is the barrel is quick detachable; in that case, is the trunnion with the locking lugs screwed into the barrel proper? Rebarrelling might be a bit complex - it would still be a nice firearm, with power not far from a .357 magnum.

in an effort to keep costs down we are going with the standard US Model barrel....
Exportig it with a shorter barrel would require a completely different ruling by State.

    That's too bad .
That gun with a 18.5" barrel would look even worse
It's bad enough with the 16" and since we can't shorten it here to the original length I see no point in owning one . Thank god my 1927A1 Thompson 16" barrel was cut down yrs ago before the BS regulations came out
Pre-orders are horrible for everyone involved. They never go smooth. We will not be doing a pre-order to bankroll this project.

I thought the 19" barrelled Thompsons were nice enough. Too bad they are all now wall hangers.
