UPDATE: Rossi Ranch Hand Mares Leg

for ammunition , i use about all ammo from winchester , Remington ,federal , Hornady , Buffalo bore , Double tap , reloading one and the rifle and the ranch hand take about all what i feed in , and i try some 1.68" .45 colt 360 grain and feed right no problem in .

Thanks for the reply. I paid Alberta prices. You would not believe what even a cheeseburger costs out here.

I have spent hours of searching trying to find out two things ... (1) the maximum length of .44 Magnum cartridge that the Rossi 92 can normally feed/load (without having to do that tricky filing stuff), and (2) the actual exact length of the HSM 305 gr. WFN Bear Load cartridge. No luck so far ...

hsm if i remember is a 1.65" , and maximum length on my 45 colt is 1.68" , so for the 44 magnum i think is about same length . The dawn store have too much price change , i know a man pay 2000$ more on a rifle a 338-378 wby , in another store was 2000$ less ..... i can believe it , many make a lots of money or pay less for the same gun from they distributors .

you can change the lifter for 454 casull lifter , and sides thing can be change too for the 454 casull if i remember , that allow to feed more longuer ammo . in my 45 colt i have trouble with the 360 grain , 340" are just enough to lift . 454 casull can feed 1.78"

Thanks again for trying to help, but your .454 Casull and my .44 Remington Magnum are two different beasts. I am a klutz with gunsmithing, and had my RH tune-up kit from SG installed in 2011 by Wanstall's resident gunsmith in BC. No way am I going to go down there (into a honed/tweaked action) with my lame skills and tools/files/whatever.

I've already sent polite emails to HSM in Montana and SG in Texas.

I've already ordered 100 rounds of them killer cartridges from Kate in Calgary. If they don't work, I'll just have to buy a suitable Ruger handgun

After reading the last few posts it looks like converting a .45LC ranch hand to .454 Casull is lot more than simply reaming the chamber. Any interest in getting Rossi to make a run of Ranch Hands in .454 Casull - or even better, .460 S&W? maybe with a more normal sized lever? With a conversion using a full-length rear stock - legal in Canada - this would be an awesome bush rifle at a reasonable cost.

Why (from Rossi's perspective) even bother? The gun is pretty-much perfect as it is. Except for the stupid mis-matched sights and often-shoddy craftsmanship (which Wanstall's does a great job of fixing) ...

Forget a new gun from Brazil. I'd just be über happy to know that I could stuff some a them high-priced hot-rodded made-in-Montana boo-teak .44 Magnum rounds (available in Calgary, if you move fast) into my tuned-up .44 RH, and know that they'll slide in-and-out like goose poop.

i was thinking to buy a revolver to use longuer bullet , but i hunt with my rifle and i wanted to try hunting moose , someone told me with a 300 grain the h.i.t.s. are not enough to kill a moose , so i go with 340 gr @ 1500 fps out of my 20" barrel .. this one have h.i.t.s. score to take a moose at 150 yards and less , I have bigger rifle but is just a trills to try that gun for the moose .
I have a browning 1885 in .50-90 sharps , can take anything on this planets with is 600 gr @ 2150 fps at only 38 000 cup . and my lovely .45-70 gov .

Damn, it sounds like you like them big-caliber boomers. I have a tiny Ruger No. 1 with iron sights in 30-06 ... with a custom 7X sling from Montana that holds two more cartridges. Prettiest rifle in the area ... a piece a art, on the wall above a painting a The Three Sisters ...
