The bear load doesn't like to cycle too well. Tried it first hand. These like rounded ammunition.

Work-around. First round Bear load, the rest, cheaper stuff. Make the first shot count.

HSM 325 Bear Load .45 LC....

My .44 Mag seems to do well with anything rounded and Truncated Cone. What type of bullet is HSM using?

The ones that I bought from AmmoSupply in Calgary are WFN (Wide Flat Nose) Gas Check 305 gr. hardcast lead, and they cycle fine in my Wanstall's-tuned (with the Steve's Guns kit) Ranch Hand.

    HSM .44 Magnum "Bear Load"

Bullet = 305 gr hard-cast wide flat nose

    Muzzle Velocity = 1260 fps

    Muzzle Energy = 1075 ft.-lb.

    ************************************************** *********

Both Remington and Winchester regular .44 Magnum …

    Bullet = 240 gr. JSP

    Muzzle Velocity = 1180 fps

    Muzzle Energy = 741 ft.lb.

Do the math. That's 45% more smack. Maybe use two hands …

I'm curious to know how legit those numbers are. All logic would suggest that a heavier bullet with a generally similar propellant would be moving at less velocity, because the charge has more load to push down the barrel.

Speculating, but maybe HSM is giving performance numbers from a 44 rifle and the latter are using a revolver?

If not, and those are out of the same barrel, then HSM's Bear Load cartridge is certainly a monster of a recipe.

    Hey Petamocto,

You make a good point. Them numbers come from a variety a sources ... please feel free to "vet" them ... and share whatever you find.

I was a Science teacher for many years, so I welcome such rigour.

    Here is my feed issues.

HSM 325 .45 Colt 'Bear Load'. Seems to be a little too long. Would like to run this ammo easier with this gun.

-Bonus Marks for anyone that can Identify the audio track I threw on there.
