    mystery mag pouches

Recently acquired some really good quality older basketwave duty gear. There is a cartridge dump pouch marked Safety Speed Holster Co, Montebello, CA. Also a cylindrical pouch with snap flaps at each end. Maybe a double speedloader case? Anyone know anything about this company and their gear?

Speed Safety Holster is now Safariland.

The double opening speedloader pouches go back to when speedloaders first hit the market. Lots of cops were using dump pouches like:

to hold loose rounds that would drop into their hand well the bottom was released.

It was easier to have them retain the habit of having rounds (now in the speedloader) drop into their hand. Plus the knob is small on most speedloaders making it hard to reach into the top of the pouch and get a good grip on the loader under stress.
I understand the need for conformity. Without a concise set of rules to follow we would probably all have to resort to common sense.
