    Area to shoot around Squamish?

I heard there is areas in and around Squamish Chief? that you can just find a safe area and do some shooting with my 22lr. I'm planning to take a trip up this weekend, anyone know any specific locations on google maps would be great. Whatever is closest to Vancouver would be great. thanks!

Some people shoot on the Furry creek road, just be aware that you won't be the only one up there.
People should not have to fear both the government and the criminal. It should be that the criminal fears both the people and the government.

    X-2 what Colin said.
With the great weather we are having here on the coast there will be hundreds climbing the Chief daily, not to mention the free climbers or many multitude of other day users as well.
Now, I know the difference between near and at the base of the Chief, so I would score a set of BC Hunting Regs and familiarize yourself thoroughly with the closed areas and open areas for dis charge of firearms.

just before britannia (assuming you are northbound on 99 from YVR) there is a forest service road that cuts up into the hills. In about a mile it branches and if you take the left branch you will shortly come to a big open area. I haven't shot there myself, but I've been there a few times and there is a ton of brass and shell casings.

Having said that, there is a real rifle range in Squamish itself. At the rod and gun club, near the logger sports venue on logger's lane.

Sounds like some people need to clean up after themselves .

Most of the stuff around the Chief is gated and is busy. Head up Squamish Valley Road for or Furry Creek.

There is no shooting within the municipal boundary of Squamish!

Squamish has a big boundary too, if you go up Mamquam forest service road ( which exits off 99 at chances Casino) you will not be out of squamish until after 9 mile bridge (10mi to be exact). You cant go to the gun club unless your a member or a guest in the direct presence of a member. There is a large no shooting area for squamish that is listed in the hunting synopsis 2012-2014. There is no shooting within 400m of the 99 highway, all of this is outlined in the hunting synopsis.

My suggestion would be to take mamquam fsr all the way up past the 10 mile marker, where you end up is pretty well the back side of the Slhaney (the mountain beside the chief) . Download the SORCA app or get a SORCA trail map (bike/dirtbike trail map) as well as a road map or google maps on your phone, i wouldnt trust a gps with so many logging roads. Check your maps for a safe direction to shoot and be sure of your target and beyond! the only safe backstop is EARTH, DIRT or SOIL.

Make sure to double check whats beyond your target as a dirtbiker was shot a few summers ago http://www.squamishchief.com/article...ig-concern-146

    Happy and safe shooting,

I just found this link that shows a fairly definitive and clearly outlined map... indicating you (CAN) shoot up Furry creek rd... provided you go far enough.. CHECK THE MAPS AT THE BOTTOM OF THE LINK.

    I don't know… Sounds like A TRAP!

There is a government sign at the beginning stating "NO SHOOTING" thats quite the deterrent.
