There seems to be quite a bit of interest in these 12" barrels.

North Sylva, do you have any info for us regarding these barrels or complete commando rifles with pinned stocks?

    “prohibited firearm”

    « arme à feu prohibée »

    “prohibited firearm” means

    (a) a handgun that

    (i) has a barrel equal to or less than 105 mm in length, or

(ii) is designed or adapted to discharge a 25 or 32 calibre cartridge,

but does not include any such handgun that is prescribed, where the handgun is for use in international sporting competitions governed by the rules of the International Shooting Union,

    (b) a firearm that is adapted from a rifle or shotgun, whether by sawing, cutting or any other alteration, and that, as so adapted,

    (i) is less than 660 mm in length, or

(ii) is 660 mm or greater in length and has a barrel less than 457 mm in length,

Perhaps I'm not reading this correctly; but, it appears to me we are permitted to alter firearms as long as they remain within the specs. This goes contrary to everything I have been told from Gunsmiths to CFC personnel. How do other readers interpret the use of comas in this sentence?

You can alter a non-res firearm any way you please, so long as it remains longer than 26" in overall length. You may cut a barrel down but no further than 18". A factory produced barrel that is shorter is perfectly ok, so long as the overall length stays above 26".

My question is if you cut a barrel below 18.5" but above 18" did you just create a restricted firearm?
