Yes they seem to be a bit small compared to the holes. Maybe a small dab of light sealant or adhesive would do the trick. Covers are not required for use.

I have read good things about these, they are supposedly very durable (probably why they seem to be standard issue to the German Paratroopers)

What rifle would you like to see it mounted on. I wont work on an AR15 without a riser (i dont have a riser).
I can mount it on an SL8/G36 conversion for you if youd like.
