Velocity is measured with a chronograph. If you handload it is a real handy tool. Cost $100 and up.

did you actually cut the bullets to see if they are lead only bullets? I thought they are all the same - soft metal core with a little bit of lead around it.
It worries me that not enough people worry!

    Thanks.

And on another note – how much would it cost to ship a crate to Toronto?

    Shipping is about $35

The way to see if a bullet is lead core or steel core is to cut it with a side cutter. Steel will not budge. lead core will dent and cut through if you squeeze hard.

The jacket might have some steel in it, so a magnet can be misleading.

Easier to use a magnet on the bullet tip.The two cases we got from Milarm had the seals intact but had every box opened and inspected at some point with lots of adding and subtracting scribbled on the box lid. Not steel cases but steel inside bullet.Harold

What were the years of mfg of the steel and non steel?
My crate was all BXN 1953 steel case and copper plate steel bullet packed and sealed in tarpaper in 1954 (from can ammo).
Stuff packs a punch and burns incredibly clean for 60 year old milsurp. No misfires as of yet!

My case had two boxes of those silver (nickle?) bullets. Did not test them to see if they were steel core.
