Try these prices on for size: http://www.gunbot.net/ . That'll give you a rough survey of what's happening south of the border. If 5.56 or .223 is available, it certainly ain't "cheaper than dirt"!

Exactly - this means once guys like me scoop up all the Norinco .223 at $0.27 from fine vendor's like TSE, all the Johnny-come-late's will be buying Federal for $0.50/round in the near future.

On a longer time frame, once American panic prices on ammo land here in Canada, those same Johnny-come-late's, I believe, will be buying Norinco .223 from guys like me for $0.50 - 0.75/round and saying it's a heck of a deal, compared to the $1-2.50/round prices for everything else.

Rumour has it that there is still bulk AE223 coming in locally at 37 cents/rd so you may be waiting awhile for the "buy low, sell high" strategy to kick in.

Ammo has no expiration date. I shoot MAYBE 500 rounds a year of .223 and I have about 2000 of my own reloads to burn through, and more on the way. You do the math, I'm in no rush.

I'm obviously older than you are. I do have an expiration date and reckon that by the time someone runs out of that cheap Norinco -- and I don't see it happening anytime soon -- my time might be up already.

Canucklehead's wise advice still stands: Buy it cheap and stack it deep. Or, to put it another way, "Buy low, shoot cheap."

I'd also like to give J.R. at The Shooting Edge a hefty pat on the back for keeping the cheap supply of Norinco running for us Cowtowners. Rarely does anyone in this city offer up such a great/economical deal.

    A BIG thanks J.R.!!

Two days later, with q big snow storm last night keeping the buyers away - 11 left after my lunch hour.

If they cam keep supply at $450, I'll buy a case every time I come in.

It's so nice not sinking money into RRSP's.

Two less crates of 5.56 and two less of 7.62x51... just scored another four crates.

At the risk of sounding like a broken record - once this stuff is gone, you will likely never see ammo this cheap again in your lifetime. Trust me on that one...
