    Legality question

So I am just waiten for my 7.62X39 xcr to come in and I saw the micro versions can use the 10 round mags, is it legal to use the 10 rounders in the regular mags? Sorry if this has already been asked Ive been out to sea for awhile now so I havent had time to research it thoroughly.

You're golden, as it's written the law prohibits any magazine designed for use in a semi-automatic rifle that can hold more than 5 rounds in the calibre it's designed for, and any magazine designed for use in a pistol that can hold more than 10 rounds in the calibre it's designed for. The key word there is "designed for" it doesn't matter if a magazine can be used in another firearm or with another calibre (see .50 Beo mags).

Paladin308, So it is illegal? Just to be clear I bought the rifle version not the pistol.

As long as the mag fits the gun with no modifications to the mag you're good to go. Doesn't matter if it was designed for the pistol variant.

No, it is legal. He's saying that because the mags were designed for a pistol, they can hold ten rounds. The fact that it just happens to fit into your rifle, doesn't make using them in the rifle illegal.

there is absolutely no law saying you can't use a pistol magazine in a rifle, or that you can only use a magazine in the calibre it was designed for. My point is that it's the magazines themselves that are regulated, not their uses.

Ruger could quickly fix this for us Canadians by re-wording their packaging to say "Only for use with 10/22 rifles".
such is the nature of our law, this is one of the many reasons why we want bill C68 repealed, because it doesn't make sense.
