If the pistol grip doesn't suit, just swap it out like a lot of people do with the A2 grip anyway. Thanks Wolverine for all the cool products.
This is great for people on a budget who want to get into an AR-15 type firearm without breaking the bank.

I was quoting their ad, but yes you are correct it's a floating hand guard rather than barrel. Either way it can't be a bad thing, as you have stated, to have an affordable AR.
