So there have been some rumours of the Type 97 being a little picky when it comes to it's magazines and in a lot of cases doesn't like the pmags. These rifles work excellent with the E-lander 5/30 magazines that we have. For those of you who don't know the E-lander is an incredibly well made AR magazine. The nylon followers and re-enforced floor plate etc on these mags are really great.

More importantly, how is it with the two versions of the LAR15 mags?

I do know that it has been picky some other types of mags but I can't say what makes. I haven't tried the LAR mags but it does work with the XCR pistol mags.

was the orginal mag included the package? or it was replaced with e-lander?

All the Type 97 rifles that Wolverine Supplies sell will have their magazines replaced with an E-Lander mag
