I was researching the Troy Northern Guard AR and it lead me to this thread.
Just saw the 16" model with the M-Loc type fore end at my LGS. Can't get the gun out of my head. It is so light and natural to hold.
I've never heard of the Nothern Guard till now. Seems like its been around for 2 years now.
Any issues, shooting reports, reviews on this gun?
Please tell me this gun sucks as I really don't need another AR!
No mlok. Think its just alpha rail (squid gripd)

If it is like this, it is not M-Lok.

You are right. It has the round holes squid grip.
My question has less to do with the Alpha rail/squid grip than with the review of the entire gun. Is the Northern Guard a tier one rifle like a Colt or DD? Anyone shoot one? How accurate or reliable is it?
I already have a 16" Colt and a VLTOR. Is it worth trading my Colt for it? And don't say, just add another to the collection. This has been an expensive year already!

That's what I'm asking! The OP was 2 years ago. I saw one at my LGS two days ago and am wondering about it.
Anyone out there have one and can give a honest opinion on it?
Would you trade a Colt AR for one?

I have a 16" model. Its a great rifle I'd say on par with Colt USA rifles. Good accuracy 1.5" groups on average depending on ammo. Light rifle, can be hard to find accessories for the Alpha rail. Id prefer if it was mlock or keymod but it does the job. Overall a great rifle but I wouldn't trade a DD or Colt to get one.

I have the 14.5" Model. I've owned Colts in the past and they are about the same. The Troy came with everything I wanted on an AR15. I shot a 1.5" group @ 100yds with AE AR223 ammo. I like all the addons so much my Windham will get some of the same.

From the little bit of research i did, I think they came out at like $1900-2000 a pop, which was too rich at the time with the then exchange rate allowing for more reasonable access to better brands for same or less mone from the states. They blew out similar specd rifles for extremely cheap when dicks sporting goods stopped carrying the line. I think today's prices are around $1500 - and you can comparison shop to see if that is a good price today.
