You can shoot 7.62x51 in a firearm chambered for 308 but it would be unsafe. Ie. It could explode in your hands.
I think you might have the wires crossed a bit on this one. While that's truer for .223 and 5.56x45; In this case .308 is the higher pressure round with a more stringent requirement on headspace, not the other way around. Confusing? Yes but careful to get these the right way around.

Had to call can am a week or two ago so I asked about the next shipment. Said it would be the end of the year.... my guess in this industry that means sometime in the first quarter of 2015, if they make it into Canada at all.

Yeah, it's really sucky, but "they're here when they're" here is typical . Too many variables I guess.

What were some of the issues with the first batch? Been wanting one for a while.

My barrel was ever so slightly under-indexed, and my rear sights were machined off to one side (still work fine, but not "centered") but other than that, mine's really well done. Not sure what the other guy ran into...

Mine turned out ok. Most of the front sights were to one side, some had angled tops milled incorrectly or to compensate for out of indexed barrels.
Some had uneven bolt lug engagement.
Most were ok though. Canam took back the crappy ones no problem. If you can, show up at a HACS show, you can handle before you buy.
