So what is the consensus favorite site combo? Peep or flat rear?
So what is the consensus favorite site combo? Peep or flat rear?
With the Ranch Hand's standard (stock) little stock ... and holding the firearm (naturally) in an extended position away from my cheek, I found that the Steve's Gunz low flat-top was far superior to the Skinner's peep ... even after I'd removed the aperture from the peepsight and basically turned it into a ghost ring sight. The tiny sight picture was just not viable at that distance ... for me, anyways.
Oh, and I'm using a (slightly higher) green fiber-optic from Steve's Gunz.
I got one of the first Ranch Hands, and it regularly (maybe 30% of the time) had failure-to-feed situations with both solid and HP factory ammo. The nose of the bullet would regularly jam on the rear of the barrel. The speed and force of cycling the action was irrelevant.
However, Gary at Wanstall's was great and totally "no questions asked" about taking it back and fixing the problem ... or replacing the gun if necessary. It took a while because their gunsmith was also sampling/testing my sight options and simultaneously doing the Steve's Gunz DVD tune-up, but everything is now slick and smooth and shooting to point-of-aim.
Mine cycles 99% of the time...
My issue is with the screws being seized or not threaded the same on the screw and thread side...
I still need to sort my cartridge guide out.
Otherwise I am an extremely happy RH owner!
Mine didn't jam but cycling was rough and the brass got chewed up. Reworking it with Steve's CD and his spring & follower kit resolved all issues.
Steve's rear peep sight with green fibre optic front sight is perfect with the full stock but as mentioned not very good with the short stock. The peep sight requires the rifle to be shouldered. Mind you I found even the stock sights to be inaccurate while trying to shoot quickly with the short stock and the rifle extended.
Stock is here! Come on .44 mag Ranch Hand!
I ended up getting Steve's Gunz Rossi kit after all and I'm going to do the work my salfe
