Hi all...

This is mostly questions for folks who own/shoot the "regular" Puma 16 or 20 inch models -

1. do they suffer from the point of impact being high issue as it seems many of the Ranch hands do?

2. do they have the roughness / feeding / explaction issues?

i have a rossi /puma in 454 casull ...... it pretty much shoots dead on to when the rear sight is in it's lowest position .... which is a good thing becuase the recoil from firing the 454 round causes the rear site to goto the lowest position .

the issues with the ranch hands shooting high has to do with the shorter barrel and a slightly different line of sight , than on the longer barreled rifles .

when i first got my rifle i do remeber it being a bit "clunky " . i did take it apart and polish / hone all the bearing surfaces and lighten up the springs .

before i took it apart it cycled ammo properly , loading ammo through the loading gate took abit of effort as that spring was very stiff .

after reworking the action , it was like a different animal , extreemly slick and fast.

rather than cutting down the stock on a long barreled rifle , myself i would prefer to put a fullsized stock on a ranch hand , with a rear peep sight as far back on the action as possible ....... i'm just waiting for rossi to chamber these in 454 casull before i do this .

Hi guys,

I've been looking at various holster options since I bought my Rossi Ranch Hand last summer. Normally I carry it in my hand or the side-pocket of my daypack or in a 24" Skinner's Scabbard (from the folks at Skinner's Sights).

I've been wondering about an idea that nobody's ever mentioned ... a way to deal with the RH's considerable weight on the belt. I'm thinking that it would normally require cinching the belt up quite tightly to prevent the weight from slipping down and perhaps creating the famous droopy-assed gang-banger look. This is a particular problem with barrel-shaped individuals (ahem) where the waist measurement is about the same as (or bigger than) the hip measurement.

Do you think that the addition of a (quick-removable) Sam Browne style belt (like on the RCMP dress uniform) that runs diagonally from the offside shoulder down and across to the holster's attachment point might be a viable idea? It would obviously be made of the same leather as the holster and accompanying (wider) gunbelt.

Just an idea maybe worth experimenting with ...

That's the only way I can see it being useful and comfortable.

The most comfortable way I think is the Baldric rig with adjustable strap. That way you adjust the height of the sheath and customize the way you want to draw your rifle. On that you can add a retaining strap in the back that goes to your belt and stop any sifting forward (a la sam brown holster). My two cents!
