It is definitely a collectors rifle. Yes Id buy one because I want one for the collection if the money wasn't an issue. Your Jaguar example is a good analogy.

As for not being in the 80s. Actually this rifle is from the late 80s. I love bullpups but there are some ergonomic flaws with this one. Flaws that either don't exist or have been limited with the Modern military bullpups such as Tavor, FS2000, PS90 etc.

But it comes down to wanting/collecting. Frankly unless the price was a huge bargain like the infamous Type97 saga, then it's not going to appeal to the average shooter. There are other alternatives around that price point which are well known. Plus there are also cheaper alternatives.

I think your Jaguar analogy really hit the mark.

I believe the type 88 action is based on the SVD dragonov not on the same action as the type 97

I was just about to say this.

You (in general) seriously cannot have some super American-type attitude and just think "It's from 'dem god darned Chinamen! It ain't American! Ain't worth squat!" *pa-ting* (sound of chewing tobacco vs bucket).

70% of the sh!t in your house is Chinese/Taiwanese etc made. I actually ordered some gear for my high end photography hobby/past time. Sure, I may have bought the Japanese camera (Made in Japan), but the lens is Canon and made in Taiwan, and then 90% of the accessories I bought are from Hong Kong and China ebay stores...they look IDENTICAL and work the exact same as the Canon branded ones...its actually been rumoured (and chances are its true) that these products are from the Canon Factory, but without the Canon logo (hence the much lower price).

Are these products identical to the Japanese/American/Euro counterparts? Well...some yes, but mostly no. Are they worse? Only in some aspects, but 99% of the time, they work the same. Bonus? They cost 1/5th to 1/10th of the price of the real deal.

That's the only diff here, that the Rifle costs 3K, which a little less than I am selling my TRG42 with optics for.... so maybe it is a little overpriced.

HOWEVER. It isnt some knock off of an american rifle. Its not some cheap clone like a Norco hp9 (which work quite well apparently). Its a unique rifle.

I would bet money on it, that the rifle works REALLY well and on par with the Kel-Tec RFB, maybe even better...

If there is ONE thing Communist Empires do well, its armament. Russians? Ak47... fraction of the cost of an M16, and it wins out every time!

Just random ideas/thoughts I thought I would toss out there

Thats because China has long been a source of cheap sweatshop labour, and lax environmental laws. To top that off Chinese manufacturers are notorious for poor quality control, and cutting corners.

Not all Chinese manufacturers produce poor quality (and sometimes dangerous) products... but far too many do.

Back on topic: Norinco has never been known to produce high quality firearms, but cheap and functional ones; so something is awry when we see a Norinco for $3000

Apple products are made in China (by Foxconn, the world's largest manufacturer of electronics components), yet widespread scathing critiques on their quality (or lack thereof) are conspicuously absent.

Norinco, as I understand, isn't a singular manufacturing firm, but the "face" that represents China's defense industry.

I think it is just an exporter, not a manufacturer. Correct me if I am wrong. I hate the argument "70% of your stuff is made in China so why not buy more chinese stuff". When I have the choice I like to buy North American made. I have had norincos and they aren't that bad, it's more or less where I want my money going for me.

I would like to read a review before I even consider purchasing a rifle

I have to agree with 1fel1ne 100%. While you can get some good products out of China, they have to be checked each and every time by someone on this end to insure quality control as built inpride is an alien concept in the land of total profit at any cost. I prefer a known quality to a reduced price.
I prefer dealing with a trusted brand based on a client history.
