Is there a extension for a CFO worker who is nice enough to look over a PAL and approve it over the phone? Like the nice people at Miramichi?
I really want my PAL by next month since I see my dad once a year and I was really hoping to go to the range with him.

3 months and 11 days for me so far with no end in sight. In hindsight I should have just applied for my PAL but for some reason I though ah screw it, save money with RPAL in case I get a pistol even though I don't want a pistol.

    Hello all,

Back again with another update. Finally got a call today from someone down at the office. He says the usual 'we have a huge backlog of applications right now.' He says, there's no benefit to calling in all the time, as it actually slows down work. While that may be true temporarily, it hopefully gets my file near the top of the pile if i'm calling in all the time. Anyways, my file is at the cfo due to my answer to one of the questions (have you been diagnosed with depression or any other emotional problems).

So he asks me some follow up questions: 1) Why do I want a restricted firearm? 2) When did i get into firearms and wanting one? 3) Is my wife into firearms? 4) Do i have children in the house? 5) How is my emotional health? 6) Have i ever had dealings with the police? When and under what circumstances?

Anyways, I jumped through all the hoops and then asked what the next step in the process was. He says he has to check into some more stuff and we will probably have another conversation before he gives the go ahead. If I don't hear from him in 4 weeks to call him back and he gave me his direct line.

So, it seems if you have answered no to all your questions, you might have your process moved along faster, but because I have answered a question positively I may be forced to wait longer. Well, that's not what it says on the PAL application website. It says: "Our service standards to process a complete and accurate application are...45 days, including the 28-day legislated waiting period, for a licence application." My application was complete and accurate and I don't have a criminal record, history of violence, or anything like that. I didn't know it was illegal to be on medication and have a firearm.

Anyways, rant over. My letters have been emailed to various MPs and MLAs, not just for my own sake, but to draw attention to the ridiculous backlog, delays and bureaucracy to do with anything firearm related.

so you have confirmed what they told me when i called the 1800#, read my post on page 36 of this thread.....

it doesn't make sense that someone with mental illness should be granted a license to own firearms. they will probably delay you until you give up. probably because they think you might shoot your family then
    turn the gun on yourself.

Join the club, I'm PTSD/ect and having to let them look at my medicals records along with providing documents from my doctors/ect to say if they have any concerns about me possessing firearms, luckily I've got one letter clearly stating I responsibly use my firearms and it is therapeutic for my condition to get outdoors and enjoy legal sporting uses of my firearms.

A big downside to all the events going on down in America with mental illness and people going on shooting spree's it results in even more fine tooth comb screening up here, while I applaud their concerns it is a bit inconvenient.

Not all forms of mental illness mean you will go on a shooting spree or kill anyone but they are much better off doing a good investigation.
Exercise your rights or lose them.

dont get me wrong... not saying anyone with this should not get their RPAL, jjust saying you cant complain if it takes longer than the average joe.
the system needs to take longer so they can cover their asses IF somthing goes wrong. cant fault that.
they are hoping you end up in the database with a road rage or something so they can deline your app. In my opinion, keep nose clean and be patient.
